Know Your Rights Initiative

RSVP Today!

The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and MedicareFoundation (NCF)’s Know Your Rights Initiative is partnering with Oakland Pride and the East Bay Stonewall Democrats to host a Town Hall meeting to discuss how the LGBT community is affected by social security. A moderated panel, featuring local and national experts including Grace M. Kim, Regional Commissioner, Social Security Administration, will discuss Social Security and the LGBT community.

The Town Hall meeting and similar events throughout the state are funded by The California Wellness Foundation and are designed for elders in the LGBT community. The purpose of the NCF’s Know Your Rights Initiative is to educate same-sex married couples about their federal rights as they relate to Social Security benefits. These rights are derived from the United States Supreme Court’s 2013 ruling in United States v. Windsor, which set in motion a myriad of enhanced federal benefits for same-sex married couples.
